  i never really understood why the wts used bce/ce.

  can anyone tell me why?

  and can anyone tell me when they started to use this system?

  Congregation get-togethers

  did your hall ever organize times for the congregation to do activities?.

  about every 6-9 months, mine would have a congregation picnic.

  people would bring food, and we would play a softball game.

  My old congregation used to have picnics all the time. Lots of softball in the summer, probably every other week, quite a lot of tennis in the evening. Campfire things when it was cooler, the occasional 'talent show' with once in a while some real talent. Present congregation not nearly so active. Seems to be a local thing, you have to have the people willing to organize, and not too many nay sayers.

  like carl olof jonsson, this is the first time i have ever written to this forum.

  i have decided to do so, however, because i am saddened at what bill bowen has chosen to do in reference to ray franz.

  let me say that i given bill full marks for publicizing an issue child abuse and the watchtower cover up of it and for taking a stand that has cost him a great deal personally.

  Dr. Penton,

  First, I can't tell you how much I appreciated your book, in my opinion it is by far the best work on Witnesses that I've read, and I've read most of them. Secondly, I appreciate your comments and agree with them completely. Lastly, it's so obvious why posting here is not a practice with you and I think it's highly commendable that you made this effort.

  egroups love to get our emails - free christians news is free to read by all including many exjws & friends as individual christians and nonwatchtower bible study groups.

  it's easy to add another 10,000 readers when you are given the motivation.

  well for the second time in one week, i happened to bump into another member of my old congregation.

  (wondering what i have done to deserve this?).

  so we chat cautiously at first, then she mentions that an elderly gentleman in the same cong is very frail and needs someone to look after him.

  Sorry, you have to demonstrate that this practice is endemic among JWs, you haven't done that. This is just the usual negative cant. A waste of time while someone engages in the usual self-indulgent "venting." Boring

  the thought of getting married at the kh was very depressing.

  i always thought what a bore it would be, i mean afterall its a very special day in your life why do it at such a boring place?

  i always thought about going to an exotic location for mine.. what about you?

  I wouldn't say this is a problem unique to JWs and in this case you're generalizing with a very broad brush, there are a whole lot of people that do this kind of thing.

  the decline of the jws has been discussed before in bits and pieces.

  i thought i would summarize some of the "signs of the times".

  1. there is been no growth in 24 internet connected countries.

  The Organization has been pretty consistent in saying that "the love of the greater number will cool off" does not apply to the Organization. I haven't seen any change in that.

  60% of Jehovah's Witnesses leaving?

  i have just posted some of the audio from the 2002 witnesses now for jesus convention at http://www.jwinfoline.com/page/audio_tapes_of_month.htm more to come shortly.. on sunday evening a jehovah's witness still active in the watchtower and said that 55 - 60% of jehovah's witnesses have stopped attending in some kingdom halls.

  has anyone else noticed a significant drop in kingdom hall attendance?

  is there something big going on inside the wt organization that outsiders may not be aware of?.

  Well it's not that way in my area, most Halls seem to be running better than 100% on Sundays.

  Question on the NWT translation

  one intresting thing is that both the kingdom interlinear and the nwt is based on the greek text of westcott & hort.

  that is a good text, and was the text for about two generations.

  but today no one except the watchtower society bases their translation on that text.
